This client had a history of chronic dieting (1200 calories/day or less). Despite dieting and working out multiple times per week, she didn't feel confident when looking in the mirror and wanted to get rid of her mom "pooch" for her upcoming vacation. 

With Habits to Happy, we increased her daily calories. With this adjustment, she was able to lift heavier, have more energy throughout her workday and lose inches to feel more confident in her swimsuit on vacation!

Fun Fact: she ended up staying the same weight throughout the program. But instead of focusing on weight loss, we prioritized fat loss(building lean muscle while losing fat).

Like many women, I grew up thinking skinny was the ultimate goal. And I was willing to take extremes to get it  - 1200 calorie diets, cardio 5x/week and restricting food groups (goodbye carbs and sweets!).

From high school to college, I was always in a group exercise class, on an elliptical or going on runs with friends. There was only one goal to exercise - burn. more. calories.

"Don't let your heart rate drop, keep moving!" 

The sweatier, the better. Burn off the poor decisions so I can fit into my size 4 jeans. My goal was to stay under 125 pounds and I was willing to take extremes to stay there and I was starting to burn out from constantly dieting & exercising.

 

 I knew there had to be a better way to keep the weight off

 

But I was too scared to stop what I was doing because I didn’t want to gain weight. Surely if I don’t keep up all these efforts, the scale will go up.

I started to notice that the women that had my “dream body” all had one thing in common – they were strength training.

They weren’t just picking up the 5-10 lb dumbbells and going to cardio classes, they were doing impressive(and slightly intimidating!) workouts – deadlifts, push-ups, grabbing the 25+ pound dumbbells. They talked about eating more, fueling their body. They showed that they could still eat pizza or have drinks with friends and maintain their figure. I didn’t believe them. There’s no way this was the answer. But after years of cardio and low calorie dieting, I was willing to give it a try.

 

 

It was the best thing I’ve ever done. And it was not easy. It was uncomfortable. I started to challenge everything I had learned when it came to fitness and nutrition.

For the first time in my life, I set my MyFitnessPal calorie goal to OVER 1200 calories/day. I started adding more nutritious foods into my diet instead of focusing on eliminating food groups. I was able to find balance between my weekdays and weekends so I no longer dreaded starting over on Mondays. I started to venture into the weight room and learn exercises I had never done before. I started to track weights instead of calories burned. I started focusing on strength instead of sweating.

As soon as I stopped worrying about the number on the scale, I was able transform both my mindset and body. The scale started to go up, but my body started to have the tone I always dreamed of. It was not easy to see the scale go up when the only goal I ever had been to lower that number. But I was building the body I had always wanted. And there were other benefits. I felt more energized. I was spending less time exercising. I felt sexier in my clothes(even though I was a size or two bigger!) I was stronger than I had ever been and setting new goals that kept bringing me back to the gym! I was able to do my first push-up and pull-up - things I had only dreamed of in my group exercise classes.

Changing my beliefs was not easy. Learning to track my food, portion sizes, and make better food choices all took time. Learning new exercises and backing away from excessive cardio took time. Learning to break away from the all-or-nothing mentality took time. Seeing the transformation in my body took time. But it was soooo worth it!

Now I am set up for life with an aligned way to maintain my dream body. What was hard, became easier. What was new, became familiar. What took effort is now habit. Yes, it still requires some time and energy but that’s okay. Because that effort gives me the freedom I was always chasing.

Training

A personalized plan created for you. The program is individualized to your needs: home vs gym, equipment availability and adjusted based on past/current injuries, specific goals, and your schedule. Feedback and progressions are given to get stronger over time. We focus of strength training with mobility, core and cardio mixed in as needed.

Nutrition

Guidance without extreme restriction. You’ll be educated on tracking calories/macros, portion sizes and improving food choices. Our method will give you freedom in your food choices and allow you to still indulge in your favorite foods or nights out! We will build life long skills for long-term results.

 

Accountability

Checking in with your coach weekly to stay accountable. Together we’re committing to your goal and sticking to it! Get support from your experienced coach and SWA community!
